Live & Forgive workshops are guided learning experiences in the practices integral to the spiritual consolations of forgiveness, healing, and renewal. Tom Delaney (O.F.S.) is the facilitator for Live & Forgive workshops and speaking engagements.
Workshops are designed for people who are struggling with fear, loneliness, and despair, as spiritual afflictions that are holding them back from freedom, love, and joy. Workshops are also designed to be helpful for people who want to care for someone who is struggling with spiritual afflictions.. Each workshop integrates learning with deep personal reflection in a safe and supportive group or community setting.
Tom draws the content for workshops from a variety of contemporary and historical sources, including:
- Research of the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University
- REACH model and process of forgiveness by Everett Worthington
- Spiritual Alphabet works of Franciscan friar Francisco de Osuna (15th – 16th century, A.D.)
- Catechism of the Catholic Church: Catholic Tradition, Sacred Scripture, and the Magisterium
The topic and format of a workshop is customized for the host to best meet the current interests or needs of the group or community.
Workshops can be designed to be completely secular, containing strictly information from scientific research of forgiveness and human flourishing, without any religious or evangelical references or content. These workshops still center the person in dignity and care and focus on the alleviation of human suffering.
Workshops can also be designed to integrate or highlight Catholic faith and teaching regarding spiritual affliction and consolation, especially Franciscan perspectives and tradition.
Workshops on forgiveness teach participants what forgiveness is, what it does, and how it works. Participants learn and practice the self-guided REACH forgiveness process, using instructional materials available to participants at no charge through the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University.
For Catholic groups and communities, forgiveness in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and in the Unbound framework of prayer and pastoral care is explained. In addition, participation in the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist are emphasized as integral to forgiveness.
Workshops on spiritual healing build upon principles of forgiveness to change the way participants view themselves and relate to the woundedness they have experienced. Participants learn that healing happens through a process of courage, renunciation of negative life influences and patterns, forgiveness of self and others, and receptivity to inner peace.
For Catholic groups and communities, healing in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and in the Unbound framework of prayer and pastoral care is explained. In addition, participation in the Sacraments of Penance and Holy Eucharist are emphasized as integral to healing.
Workshops on spiritual renewal teach participants how to use contemplative practices for reconnection with their own spirit and its ability to have positive loving relationships. Contemplative practices include: forgiveness and self-acceptance, mindfulness and meditation, seeking wonder and awe, devotional prayer, and connection with nature, not to mention occasional humor and fun as well.
For Catholic groups and communities, renewal in the Catechism of the Catholic Church and in the Unbound framework of prayer and pastoral care is explained. In addition, participation in the sacraments of penance and Holy Eucharist are emphasized as integral to renewal.
